Municipal Primary Ballots Mail Citywide
Posted on August 20, 2025

Missoula County Elections will mail more than 47,000 municipal primary ballots today to active and provisionally registered voters who live within Missoula city limits. Each ballot will include a mayoral race, and those in Wards 2, 3 and 6 will also include a city council member race.
Ballots must be returned to the Elections Office by 8 p.m. on Election Day, Tuesday, Sept. 9. Return postage is paid, and voters are encouraged to mail their ballots by Tuesday, Sept. 2, to ensure they arrive on time.
Polling places are not available for this mail-only election. In the days leading up to Election Day, voters can drop off their ballots in person on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Elections Center – Building B, located at 140 N. Russell St. in Missoula.
From 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Election Day only, there will be two drive-thru ballot drop locations:
- Hellgate Elementary baseball fields (2385 Flynn Lane, just north of the school campus)
- Missoula County Fairgrounds, between the Fairgrounds and the YMCA off Russell Street
Ballots may also be returned inside the Elections Center - Building B (ADA-voting equipped) on Election Day.
"The ballot return rate in the 2023 municipal primary election was 46.43%,” Elections Administrator Bradley Seaman said. "We’d love to see that number rise above 50% for a local election. We want all eligible voters to vote, and we are excited to offer the new drive-thru location at the Hellgate Elementary baseball fields to help serve the expanding northwest area of the city. If you don’t see your ballot in a few days, contact us at 406-258-4751."
The words "official ballot" are no longer stamped on each ballot. Due to a new law passed during the 2025 legislative session, counties are required to print the words “official ballot” on their ballots instead of stamping them individually. Missoula County voters will see the words "official ballot” printed in the heading and bottom center column of the ballots.
If residents need to register to vote, change their address or make other updates to their registration, they will need to do that person at the Elections Office. By law, the office will be closed to new voter registration between noon and 5 p.m. Monday, Sept. 8. Voters can still drop off a ballot, receive a replacement ballot or pick up an undeliverable ballot during that time. Voters can check that their address and other information are up to date online at myvoterpageMT.com.
Election Day voter registration will be available. All voters in line at the Elections Center at 8 p.m. will be served. Voters can also visit the Elections Center to receive a replacement ballot, pick up an undeliverable ballot and access other voter services. The Elections Center will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Election Day.
