Patrol Division
Missoula County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division are, often times, the first to arrive on-scene of any call for service or incident within Missoula County.
The Patrol Division is comprised of four teams who cover five patrol zones (map) within the 2,618 miles of Missoula County. Examples of calls for service range from in-progress crimes, crisis response and intervention, visual crime deterrent, traffic complaints, officer advice, and missing persons. This list is not conclusive. There are many more contacts made by Missoula County Sheriff's Office Deputies each day.

Those assigned to the Patrol Division are the face of the agency and are always happy to assist residents and visitors in Missoula County. The Patrol Division is commanded by Captain Cochran and supported by Lieutenant Sargent.

Career Opportunities
Captain Jared Cochran
Captain Jared Cochran started his career with the Ravalli County Sheriff’s Office in November of 2000 before moving to the Missoula County Sheriff’s Office in 2006. During his career, Jared has worked as a Patrol Deputy, Field Training Officer, Patrol Supervisor, Narcotics Detective, FBI Violent Crime Task Force Officer, Patrol Lieutenant and he is currently the Captain of the Patrol Division.
Jared also currently serves as the Tactical Commander for the Missoula County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team. Jared started his tenure with the Team in 2008 serving in numerous capacities within the Team including Assistant Team Leader and Senior Team Leader.
Lieutenant Zach Sargent
Lieutenant Zachary Sargent started his career with the Missoula County Sheriff's Office in 2010. Lieutenant Sargent has served as a Patrol Deputy, Patrol Corporal, Patrol Sergeant, Field Training Officer, and Special Response Team Member.
Lieutenant Sargent is currently the Patrol Lieutenant for the Division. He also serves as a Deputy Coroner and is the Team Leader for the Special Response Team.
