IN MEMORIAM

When a law enforcement officer is killed, it's not an agency that loses and officer; it's an entire nation.

Sgt. Allen Kimery

December 6, 2024 marked the 40-year anniversary of a very sad and tragic day for Missoula County Sheriff's Office. A day we will never forget and we will always pay tribute to, and honor the memory of, a dedicated law enforcement officer who gave the ultimate sacrifice to the communities he served.

Sergeant Allen Kimery was shot and killed while making a traffic stop on a vehicle suspected of not paying for gas in the 1200 block of West Broadway just before 3:00 a.m., December 6, 1984. As he approached the vehicle the suspect opened fire striking Sergeant Kimery. He was able to return fire and wounded the suspect. The suspect was sentenced to 20 years to life for Sergeant Kimery's murder.

Sgt. Kimery was known for his "sensitivity and strength, for constant hope in a job that too frequently confronts hopelessness."

As you read this we hope you will take a moment of silence to remember the service and sacrifice given. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends, and co-workers and we are forever grateful for the ultimate sacrifice he made while serving the citizens of Missoula County.
