Court Records
The following types of records are held in District Court:
- Marriage licenses (see note below)
- Divorce decrees
- Wills
- Adoption records
When requesting a records search or copies of documents, please provide as much information as possible. You may submit your request by submitting the form below, by fax (406) 258-4899 or by mail (along a self addressed, stamped envelope) to our office at 200 West Broadway, Missoula, MT 59802.
Copies of marriage licenses
Marriage licenses are sealed for 30 years from the date of marriage. Copies are available only to the married couple, unless written authorization is given by the couple.
A photo ID must be presented for in-person requests.
Requests by email, fax or mail must be accompanied by a legible copy of your driver's license for identification purposes. We recommend blacking out date of birth and driver's license information prior to forwarding to our office.
Case records
Information regarding ongoing investigations and pending and cases is confidential by law. Disclosure of confidential information almost always requires a court order. The procedures for obtaining criminal justice information (CCJI) vary depending on what type of information you are seeking and your relationship to the case.

Fees
- Hard copies (except marriage license and divorce decree):
- $1 per page for first 10 pages
- $0.50 per page for each additional page
- Emailed copies (except marriage license and divorce decree): $.025 per page
- Copy of marriage license: $5
- Copy of divorce decree: $10
- Certification with seal $2 per document
- Searches
- $2 per name per year for the first seven years
- $1 per name per year for each additional year
Payment is accepted by check, money order, credit or debit card. 1.995% plus a $1.25 processing fee will be added to card transactions
